Traditionally, most Japanese people enjoyed a few standard dishes for breakfast, but just as modern Americans eat a wide variety of foods for breakfast, so do modern Japanese. Consequently, it's difficult to generalize and say what all Japanese people eat for breakfast, but, traditionally, what the Japanese ate for breakfast was very similar to what they ate for lunch and dinner. Rice, soup and sushi are some of the staples of a traditional Japanese breakfast.
