Native Americans created lacrosse, though the facts about the original game are a mystery. Even though it is a homegrown sport, until the 1990's the fun of lacrosse was still largely concentrated in the north eastern United States and in Canada. Today, the sport has spread to high schools and universities across the country. Lacrosse is played with a small rubber ball and a long stick with a net on the end. There are separate versions for both men and women, the largest difference being that the men's version includes a significant amount of contact.
