Creating your own personal or business web page can be an exciting and monumental step. It can also be quite stressful and pricey depending on who your website designer is. This tab is designed to offer tips and information for those choosing to take on this task themselves. When I first decided to build my own web page, I chose to use Weebly.com's free option. Weebly is a great tool for a newcomer. There is a small learning curve, but on the whole, it is very easy to create a simple page using drag and drop. Once your simple page is up you can add on quite a few accessories like YouTube clips, submission forms and surveys, all for free.

Weebly - Weebly's free option offers an incredible set of simple tools that allow you to drag and drop elements into your site. You can choose from a variety of pre-made templates as a starting point. There is also an option for a paid version, but I would recommend trying your luck at using the free tools first.

Google Sites - I have also built webpages using Google Sites. I find the web tool pretty difficult to use. It allows you to add page after page of content all for free, but it's just not easy to use. Your experience may be drastically different than my own, but even getting the page to route to my URL for the site was a painful process. If you're hoping to make an internal Intratnet for your company. Or, possibly use wiki functionality, Google sites could be for you.

Yola - free pages - Yola offers a free version, if you don't already own your own domain, they will definitely push you to buy one through them.

Jimdo - I have never used it, but Jimdo is marketed much like Weebly and Yola. It also has a free option.

Stanford Self Help Web Resources - This includes templates, tips on HTML and CSS and even best practices on accessibility. This should probably be one of your first stops if you're thinking about making your own web page.
